Locally-grown fresh produce year round is a reality at Gandhi Mahal. In 2014, we teamed up with Spark-Y Youth Action Labs, a non-profit that empowers youth with hands-on education in urban agriculture and specializing in aquaponics systems, to install the first-of-its-kind-in-MN basement aquaponics system. Our aquaponics system produces malabar spinach, cilantro, hot peppers, a variety of salad greens, ginger, turmeric, curry leaf, and of course, tilapia, served when available on the menu. We’re happy to say we’ve gone beyond farm to table, and cook with basement to table produce daily.
Guests are welcome to tour the aquaponics system during their visit to Gandhi Mahal - just ask your server. We also host guided aquaponics tours and informational presentations to share our sustainability efforts restaurant wide. Groups, organizations, businesses, and elementary, junior high, high school, and college classes are encouraged to visit. Fill out our online contact form to schedule a tour!
